Very large, full, and rich game. You can put hundreds of hours into this game and still not be bored.

I don't see this game as a masterpiece, but it is great. It's lost a bit of it's charm over time, but when it was released it was pretty awesome. The modding community helped it stay relevant for awhile.

Having played this game on various platforms and versions for well over 1000 hours, I can say two main things about Skyrim:
1- If you're new to the RPG genre (Not like those new games that is categorized as "RPG" just because they have a skill tree. Yes, I'm looking at you Witcher and Assassins Creed. ) and want to delve into a whole new world, then this game is definitely for you. It's
It's casual enough for everyone to understand the world and story, and it doesn't have a complex mechanical structure like those old cRPGs. It's much more focused on action elements while still providing tons of roleplaying chances in an amazing setting. However, if you've played games like The Witcher 3 and expect those kinds of things, don't. In terms of story and storytelling, this game is nothing like The Witcher 3. Both main and side stories are clunky and you won't even care about them except for a few questline.
2- If you're an oldschool RPG fan who've played and liked games like Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale or even Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect, this game might not be for you. It's still a good game that you may enjoy, but don't expect anything like the games I've just mentioned. Combat is very action oriented with no room for tactics and all. Dialogue options can vary, but they're definitely not rich, it's mostly your typical "yes, no" type of options. (There's not even sarcastic yes.) However, if you're into tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons, the game gives you a HUGE chance to roleplay, even in vanilla.
There are some good amount of class and profession variations that you can do to roleplay. You want to be a merchant who only trades by wandering town to town? You can do it. You want to be a fierce warrior who earns his living by killing monsters and bandits? Sure, go ahead. You want to be an evil elf with a secret lair who secretly kills nords because of an old trauma? Hell yeah you can do that. You want to be a loving family dad while being a town guard? You might need a few console commands but yes, you can also do that. I've played this game with anything from "imma go murder every single man in this land" to "I'm just a peaceful dude who lives in a shack and sells rabbit meat" and I can easily say that every playthrough has its own delight.
Although, if you want to experience this game to the fullest, you definitely should install mods. Nearly all Bethesda games have an awesome engine in terms of mod support, so there are thousands of awesome mods for all your tastes that you can download for free and you don't even need a good PC to use most of them.
Overall, awesome game with a lot of opportunity for roleplaying, albeit with a mediocre gameplay/story.
8/10 in Vanilla. 11/10 with mods.

A great but buggy hell of a game. I wont recommend it to be played on platforms other than the PC because of (a) bugs and (b) mods.

The mod capability they give to players is not from the goodness of their hearts but from their laziness. Outsourcing basically your quality assurance to players.
So judging the game as developed by bethesda, i cant just give it the 10 i experienced.
The true test of a bethesda game was fallout 76. Where there is no active modding community and it shows how crappy the game really is.

I thought Skyrim was the best game ever made until the witcher 3 came out. After playing it for 1000 hours now I realize the story is bad and the combat is pretty much the same throughout the whole game.

This is a great game, a great RPG, but I feel like it's a tad overrated. It might be technically superior to Oblivion and past TES titles, but I don't like the menu interface and GUI in general. In my opinion, the simplicity of the interface makes it feel more shallow compared to Oblivion, where the journal style inventory felt more lore appropriate and had more character.
I have owned this title on both xbox and now steam, and every one in a while I will boot it up again to check out mods, but for all this game does right, it still won't ever replace TES IV in my mind.
Story - 8 Lore - 10 Character Creation - 9 (vanilla skyrim CC isn't as in-depth as Oblivion's) Looting/equipment finding - 10 Questing/variety - 7 (the quests didn't draw me in the way they did in Oblivion) Combat - 8 Side quests/activities - 10 (admittedly, building your own house via dlc is pretty fun I found) Music/soundtrack - 10 (the dovakiin theme song from PR/commercials was genius) Visuals - 7 (vanilla)

You can't go wrong with skyrim, it can get glitchy but it depends on how much stuff happens all at the same time but apart from that its a brilliant game

Very fun to play. Watch out you may shut down your real life! Mods galore. If you don't like something or want to add something else there is most likely a mod for it. Or you can make your own mod. Игра не так хороша как я думал раньше, но все таки очень много времени в ней пройдено, атмосфера просто прекрасна. Подкачал сюжет и доп квесты, которые были не очень интересны

Skyrim's gameplay becomes quite repetitive and boring rather quickly. However, mods help prevent these issues from becoming prevalent. It is never a good thing when a game heavily relies on mods for it to be enjoyable over a long-term, especially when that game is a RPG. A really good open-world game. But by itself it is not the best one. Though mods can and will improve things.

A classic. Most all the quests outside of the main quest have been interesting and fun but Skyrim is all about sidequesting so it's totally fine in this game. There are many ways to play and re-play this game. Lots of choices from what direction you take in the game, to building custom houses, and looting everything to to craft so many different things. The game is older though so there are a fair number of bugs that can be encountered but it was my second rpg and a fav for a lond time. Also- the music is wonderful.
Takeaways Pros: lots of customization and types of quests, options options options, great music. Cons: older game so is falling behind in the graphics area, can be buggy especially at high player levels.

Very good game that suffers from typical Bethesda bugs and style of development. The game with all DLC has a tonne of content but for me the difficulty is rather low. Skyrim is definitely a unique experience. If it hadn't been for its bugs, the game would have aged better. The graphics feel ancient but they are surprisingly still eye catching at some points. It might be a 10-year-old video game but it is still a very enjoyable and memorable experience.

This is very beautiful and it is worth every penny that you paid in its time for the quality and the graphics were beautiful.

Skyrim gave huge liberty to the player in it's open world, while looking graphically really good for its time. That one is ok, but nothing too much to speak about when compared to Witcher series, Dragon Age Origins or Baldur's Gate (Bethesda has never had good storytelling vibe, their good stuff is focused on creation of immersive gameworlds with great ambiances). The characters are cookie cutter mary sues and a lot of content reuses copy-pasted areas (notably the crypts or some caves), still that game had some kind of mysterious atmosphere to itself thanks to sound, music which is excellent, environmental effects that made me play the game for several hundreads hours.…Expand

Very rich and distracting world. Although I played the game around 2017, it did not feel much old, being over half a decade old. The story and side missions very very engaging. The open-world experience was very well-made.

To clarify I am only taking into account Skyrim and the DLC that fallowed, modding will not be taken into account; if it was it would be 10, as the game with modding has so much replayability its absurd with over 1.9 billion downloaded mods on nexus. The modding community has practically made this game for me.
Okay so Skyrim is set in the world of Tamriel in the land of well Skyrim.

Okay so Skyrim is set in the world of Tamriel in the land of well Skyrim. First off this world is huge and with the added DLC even bigger with the main land of Skyrim aswell as Solstheim and Castle Volkihar (I think?). The world has alot to explore with many dungeons, nearly 200 of them in fact unfortunately many of them feel very similar however. The game offers many quests with a fairly long main story and alot of side quests, one thing I appreciate about the side quests of Skyrim is many don't feel like quests to just give the player a little xp and gold for killing 5 enemies then returning, alot of them have little stories to go along with them which makes the world feel richer and more alive; as the NPCs how hand out these quests don't just end up feeling like statues to boost leveling. The main story of the base game in my opinion has always felt somewhat dull, it never really interested me to the point of me being excited to see what would happen next; this is even more so on repeat playthroughs of the game. The ones that stick out especially are the "Retrieve the Dragon Stone" and the "Horn of Jurgen Wind Caller" quests, I had always dreaded doing these quests for the poor pacing of the missions and they aren't all to interesting. The ending I will not spoil but I found the boss fight extremely underwhelming as well. I feel the Base game unmodded really doesn't hold up much today to be honest, and it does hurt to say that but I know it's true. One gripe I have with the game overall including DLC is the overall look of the game, it gets very tiring of seeing bleak snowy mountains and more cold environments. However this also kind of is in the games favor because when you discover a new area it makes the experience more of a spectacle.
The Dawngaurd DLC adds much to be desired for me, from the new faction to join of the already many in Skyrim, to the new environments of vampire infested lands. One moment I remember fondly is when you meet the two dragons during the DLC for the first time, it really felt awesome.
The Hearthfire DLC is pretty cool, makes the game feel much more alive and immersive with the implements of new Housing and adopting children, and other changes.
The Dragonborn DLC Is alright in my opinion, I really liked the look of most of raven rock but at some point in the DLC the color pallet changes to just green and black for the longest time, it gets very boring very quickly. But the gameplay of Skyrim in general make up for it and other short comings of this DLC.
Skyrim also has one of if not the most addicting leveling systems out there, it feels really rewarding to get new gear from enemies or create it on your own. And the game is balanced in most regards. Lastly the base game bugs, its part of Skyrim at this point... Its funny, but you'll probably want to install a bug patcher mod .
